BLOG

Hello there! My name is Jackson Stewart and I’m a NYC based hairstylist and colorist. I currently work at the John Barrett Salon and I also see private clients at the Aman Hotel here in New York City. I’m also the owner of Ethereal For Divine Hair™, a new haircare company.

Why are you doing a blog?

I wanted to create a space to share my knowledge on all things hair. I’ve been in the business since 2008 and I really love talking hair and educating people and answering questions. So feel free to ask me anything about hair using our contact form.

Why did you start your own brand?

How often have you picked up a bottle of shampoo and seen a list of 50 or more ingredients you can’t pronounce and have never heard of? Have you ever asked what are all these weird chemicals I’m putting on my body? I certainly have, so I decided to create Ethereal For Divine Hair™ , a luxury haircare brand that uses simple formulations that are high performing and an emphasis on quality, plant-derived and natural ingredients.

What make our ingredients better than everyone else’s?

To put it simply, the source origin. We source our plant extracts, essential and plant oils from reputable farms in Spain, Morocco, Brazil, the Amalfi Coast, the South of France, India, Tunisia and the United States.

What make our formulas better?

Our formulas are simple yet effective. We try to to stay under 20 ingredients per product and avoid things like drying alcohols and unnecessary fillers, feel-enhancers and preservatives. We also stay transparent about what ingredients are used in our formulas and why. We strive to educate our customers so they can feel good about their beauty and care products.

How were your products developed?

After taking a multitude of course on natural cosmetic formulation I was able to find a chemist that I trusted who understood my vision and was able to bring my formulas and ideas to life. After hours of testing and lots of client feedback I had the first batches made which were met with high praise and glowing reviews. We call ourselves a micro-batch company, meaning we only create a hundred or so units at a time to insure freshness and cut down on shelf time.

Where else can we find you?

One all the socials of course! You can find me on Instagram: @jacksonstewarthai I’m also on TikTok and YouTube: @etherealfordivinehair

Silicones are not bad for your hair

Silicones are not bad for your hair.

Controversial Statement I know…

There are a lot of ingredients that are demonized right now in this new-era of “clean beauty.” While I agree with some of these I don’t believe silicones should be getting as much bad press as they are. For one silicone are great detanglers and add slip to the hair that prevent knots and snags that lead to pulling and eventually breakage. Silicones also add a light weight film around the hair strands which helps lock in moisture and make the hair soft and shiny and keep the hair from frizzing in high humidity. Dimethicone which is found in a lot of hair oils is also great at protecting hair from heat damage. Heat damage often manifests as dry, porous ends and an inability to grow the hair past a certain length without breakage. I have seen time and time again clients who add a product with Dimethicone to their haircare routine end up seeing less heat damage and breakage and are able to grow their hair longer and thicker than clients who don’t. Dimethicone can protect hair up to 400 degrees. Some say that silicones cause build up on the hair and will eventually cause dryness and breakage though I have yet to see this in over 15 years as a professional hairstylist. The moral of the story is don’t be afraid of silicones in haircare products especially if you are one to use hot tools such as blowdryers, flat irons or curling irons.
